basically an on off button(on when it is pressed and off when it is released) Similar to the light switch for the fridge door. It has probably been moved out of position and needs to be put back into position.

Door switch is bad – by pressing against it, you’re making it close. It’s to stop dishwasher if door is opened. It could be out of alignment, or you will need a new one.

look on the back of washer ;bottom right red or green button press. if not switch is bad . 65

What?
Geeze…Ok ALL dishwasher lower arms come apart and should be done monthly. This is done differently for different machines, Some snap apart some you need a ratchet wrench or a "T" handle. Give us the make and model and lets see what we can figure out.
