PostHeaderIcon dishwasher. repair or replace?

my dishwasher takes water in, heats up but doesn’t feed the water to the washer arms. it just bubbles up in the supply pipe. what is the likely problem and is it worth fixing?

You should run vinegar through your Dishwasher from time to time to clean out the build up. . .much like you should do your coffee maker. It may work. If it doesn’t, then a repairman will end up costing quite a bit and I just toss the appliances and get a new one. While you’re trying to run the vinegar through it, start reading the Sunday ads. I’ll bet the vinegar will work over time. Yes, do not mix bleach and vinegar.

dishwasher repair? help!?

I recently had a problem similar. I called a serviceman in our area, and instead of making a house call he told me to try something. I did and it worked! Here’s what he said:

Buy a quart of white vinegar. Buy a quart of chlorox. Pour them in your dishwasher without dishes and run through the longest cycle. (i did this twice over a period of 2 days)

The third day my dishwasher worked perfectly and cleaned better than ever! Paper from labels and general water corrosion caused the holes in the arms to clog and now they are clean! Hope it works for you, too.

    are the inlet filters clear?

as to replace, depends how old the one you have is.

get price for new one, then ring round and get quotes for repair, if close, get new one

I agree with Mary about trying to clean out the supply line. Chances are it’s lime build up from hard water. If that doesn’t work, you probably just need to get a new one.
Woops I didn’t see the part about bleach. DON’T mix bleach and vinegar together as they can cause toxic fumes. http://chemistry.about.com/od/healthsafety/a/dangeousmix.htm

I agree that vinegar only is the best bet. It is dangerous to mix it with bleach. The vinegar is a mild acid and will remove chemical build up. Bleach does not. It may sanitize the washer but that’s not what you’re needing.

Had the same problem the repair man said it was a filter problem and that it would mean that the dishwasher had to be stripped down at some expense and really it was not worth it
so we bought a new one on advice we bought a bosch and were informed with this make the problem would probably never occur again
