If my dishwasher won’t drain, what can I do? Or do I have to call a repair man?
The Dishwasher won’t drain the water from the machine. Any suggestions?
That depends very much upon your level of expertise regarding do it yourself projects. Are you comfortable working with it? Are you willing to learn? Do you have access to tools and reference material? You should check the obvious first. Manually pump out as much water as you can. Disconnect the plumbing and try to clear the drain. If it is clear, check the drain to the sewer. If that is clogged, then how far do you want to take this? You might do a lot of work and still have to call a serviceman/technician.

Before calling the repair man, try to check the drain to see if it is plugged. I once had a bean stuck in mine and it stopped draining.

Check the hose under your sink that is tied into the drain or the garbage disposal. That hose drains the dish washer. It may be cloged.

The pump motor could be defective and it could be failing to go into the reverse direction. Start the cycle from the begining. The dishwasher is designed to drain the water out as the first part of the cycle (to pump out any excess water that drips off of the rinsed dirty dishes) If you hear the motor running, the drain hose could be clogged. If it does not run before or during the filling of the machine, then the motor could be bad.
I do not know what it costs to fix these days but dishwashers are so inexpensive that its probably cheaper to buy a new one and have a repairman install it.

you may want to check your pump, it may have grounded out, or check your discharge hose, make sure there’s no obstruction in the line. to clear this out, get it sucked out using a wet/dry vacuum. or, the line going to the garbage disposal where the dishwasher hose is attached to had not been punched out (new install garbage disposal) you can try this experiment. disconnect your dishwasher hose from the garbage disposer and run the DW to see if pump is working, then you can pretty much rule out which one is the culprit. good luck
