PostHeaderIcon How to get dishwasher to clean the best?

My dishes always come out smoky looking and covered in water spots. Anyone know any really easy ways to
1. Clean the dishwasher itself
2. Any household solutions I can use as a rinse agent or something to help the dishes look sparkling?

Thanks!

When we bought our brand new home I started using some cheap, generic dishwasher soap. Within months I noticed this type of waxy, greasy stuff all over my dishes and on the inside of the Dishwasher. I kept calling out the repair man but he couldn’t find anything wrong. He did recommend to use only Cascade and run a full cycle, not the short one. I switched and immediately my dishwasher was cleaner and so were my dishes. If you do by Cascade, get the liquid one with Shine Shield, it works great. Do not buy the blue box of Cascade Complete. Even thought it states it works better it left a cloudy film on my glasses and I just emailed a complaint to the company. Also, if you read your owners manual, which most people including myself don’t, it usually recommends to use only Cascade.

How do you get rid of dishwasher smell on drinking glasses?

Your dishwasher may not be filling with enough water.Listen to the initial fill cycle and when it ends open the machine to see if there is enough water(should be at least as high as the heat element).

Try using Tang to clean the dishwasher. Also, make sure to empty the food trap once in a while.
But, unfortunately, some of it might just be due to the fact that you have hard water (lots of minerals in the water). We have that problem.

run it empty and when it reaches the rinse cycle open it and pour vinagar (white) directly into it. It will remove all the hard water buildup and your glasses will sparkle. Also maybe you should turn up the temp. of your dishwasher. if the water isn’t hot enough it won’t clean them either

In the cleaning supplies aisle of the grocery store you’ll find a product called JET-DRY which is specially designed to take care of the nastiness your poor little dishes are experiencing. Get some of that and add it to the little compartment of your dishwasher–the instructions are on the back of the JET DRY package. There’s even one that smells a little like oranges, and that smells nice as well as doing a great job on the dishes.

    Hope this helps!

If you make your man your dishwasher, they would appreciate it if you would sometimes clean them by hand, and would likely do a much better job, then hand him a towel and he could be your jet dry.

Check your water temperature. The water temp. inside the dishwasher must be at least 120 degrees F. If it isn’t adjust your water heater to get it to that temperature. Use the water heat options on your dishwasher if so equipped. Before starting the dishwasher run the hot water in the sink until it is the hottest that you can get it to ensure that the dishwasher at least starts off with good hot water.

Make sure the wash arms turn freely and there are no blockages in the holes where the water is supposed to spray out. Check screens in the bottom of the dishwasher if so equipped for food particles, paper from labels and other debris. Check to make sure that the water drains out completely at the end of the wash and drain cycles. There could be a blockage in the drain line where it connects to the garbage disposal or where it connects to the sink drain line.

To clean the dishwasher itself, there’s a new cleaner in the store especially for that. I don’t remember what the name of it is, but it’s by the Cascade and Jet Dry. I use Cascade and a very small amount of Dawn (or you could just buy the pre-packaged Cascade and Dawn). Remember to use a rinse aid, such as Jet Dry. This will help with the water spots along with using the heated dry feature on your dishwasher. No matter what size load or how dirty the dishes are, I always run my dishwasher on heavy load. It seems to work the best. Hope this helps!
