What makes a dishwasher drain the water after it washes the dishes?
The Dishwasher will wash but it will also bring things up from the garbage disposal.
Is that what we need to make the dishwasher drain better?
The dishwasher hose goes up the the arbae disposal not down to it. My mom is printin this off for my brother so he can fix it. Thanks everyone!
ok ….look under the sink cabinet……… you see the drain hose from the D/W? that hose needs to be routed all the way up to the bottomside of the counter top then back down to the disposal…. you may need to set a screw into the underside of cabinet and a small piece of wire to hang the hose………… this will solve the problem
What is the brown sand-like stuff my dishwasher is leaving on my dishes?

with the hose pitching down from the disposal to the D/W its basically an outlet not an inlet……chicken bones sharpen disposal blades
Your pipes are clogged up. The dishwasher is draining good, but your Disposal isn’t. Get a bucket and take the P trap loose under the sink. Check if there is anything stuck in the pipe that goes to the wall. Run HOT water through your disposal for about 10 minutes after you put the pipes back together. You can pour Liquid Plumber down the sink just to help clean them out. When your dishwasher drains into the disposal you shouldn’t see anything come back up into your sink. It should flow out of the garbage disposal into the drain pipe. For your question…A pump underneath your dishwasher makes the water drain. It comes out of the pump, through the pipe and into your garbage disposal, then it should flow down to the drain. If you have any questions please feel free to e-mail or IM me. Good luck also… doing what the guy above me said wouldn’t hurt…all that does is make the drain water go up higher so it will have a faster fall to the garbage disposal. (Get a 3/4 in. pipe strap and screw it to the wall as high as possible)

what makes it drain? well there is a small pump.
I think boredsti described it well,
but U need to be sure the hose is not too short, if so get a longer one..
drainage hoses are to run down and not up, by alleviating this hose, you should be able to elevate ur problem. good luck in doing so..
