I love those old D&M machines. My grandmother had an 18″ Kenmore built-in from about 1978 or so and it was a lot more fun than our boring GE. The loud whooshing and clinking of glasses during wash let you know it was getting the job done!

Yes it does, and the silverware holder, I just removed them for the test and demonstration.

It seems to be fine …
It seems to be fine around the pump…there was a small amount of leakage around the float switch the first time I tried it, but then the second time it seemed to be OK.

That’s unusual how the logic is for the fill…it almost seems like you could modify it to actually use the float switch for water level control!

    I put some Cascade …
I put some Cascade in the water while testing it so that cleaned out the rest of the dirt which was in it.

I see it has a carousel style upper rack, but does it have the bottom rack?

    I would be worried …
I would be worried about the pump seals rotting on something that old, but if water does not leak on the motor you are good to go.

Geez I would of added some bleach to the wash or rince just to make sure its sanitary that thing was NAAAAAAAAAAAAAASTY!

wow……… We keep ours cleaned and bleached out those people must of not taken care of theirs.

It is on a lot of the refrige door shelf rails.
Is still on some of the new ones

We have an early 90 …
We have an early 90′s Kemnore that is still going, but it has an annoying quirk by design- The fill valve is controlled by the timer, with the float switch only being used for overflow safety. So if the intake screen gets clogged, or the water pressure is too low in the house, it won’t fill with enough water.

Interesting thing is how much similarity this one has to a newer one, especially with the motor setup. It even sounds the same.

    We just put a T …
We just put a T fitting on the hot water side for the sink before the cut off valve, put the sink cut off valve on one side and installed a standard pipe cut off valve then a pipe thread to barbed hose fitting and just slipped the dish washer hose on and clamped it with a hose clamp. You can get the discharge pipe at a hardware store and just plumb it in with the sink drain.

wow, we don’t make ‘em like that anymore! Its weird seeing our logo on that along with Kenmore. Sears doesn’t put their name on anything anymore. Its funny how loud the machine is! We have a stainless steel model that you can barely tell is on when its running. I remember my grandmother had one of the first consumer dishwashers in her house that she used until about 6 years ago when she moved out. It was made my kenmore and I think it was from 1960-2.

    My parents got one …
My parents got one of these when I was a kid in about 1977. It was from Western Auto and I think was a Wizard Citation. Mother would wheel it in front of the kitchen sink and hook it up to the faucet. They used it for 10 years until the kitchen got remodeled. I think it was still working and they sold it.

    Back some 5 years …
Back some 5 years ago, Mom & Dad bought the doublewide home that we live in now. It was a repo that needed lots of work that they 11,000 bucks.

all the major appliances, including the furnace, were taken out except a GE dishwasher that had a hard water stain and a water heater. The dishwasher cleaned up nice and the only servicing it has needed was some wheels for the top basket.

Even my bedroom door was gone. lol

Thank you! I saw what looks like a 1974 date code on the motor…Initially I thought it might be older.

    I think I may have …
I think I may have to do that too. When I get it in the kitchen I will try the faucet hook-up but based on what happened with the hose test it seems like it might leak. I might try a Y-connector with the hot water supply to the clothes washer as I noticed there is a standard hose thread input to the solenoid water valve under the machine.

I have seen ads for the top-loading machines but never got to see one in person.

I will see if I can get it set up in the kitchen this afternoon so I will certainly make a video of the first load.

We had one of those in our old apartment, We ended up putting it under the kitchen counter and rerouting the electrical cord out the back. the quick connect for the faucet leaked so we cut it off and plumbed the water and discharge.
